Job Description

Surveillance Scientists required for long term locum assignments working with the Health Protection Surveillance Centre.

This role will mainly involce remote working and some work related travel.

 We are looking to speak with suitable candidates who can demonstrate depth and breadth of experience working in a research, scientific or health services environment involving infectious diseases, public health or epidemiology.

Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience in data analysis and report writing / scientific communications.

 The purpose of the role will be to support the delivery of health protection functions at HPSC, the post holder will be responsible for the management, development and implementation of surveillance systems and the analysis, interpretation and presentation of data for public health action The post holder will also contribute to research and training at HPSC.


  1. Professional Qualifications, Experience etc.
  • Hold a third level qualification at QQI* Level 8 or equivalent in one of the following:
  • Microbiology and/or Infectious Disease
  • Biological Science
  • Biomedical Science
  • Public Health
  • Epidemiology


Hold a post-graduate QQI* level 9 qualification, or higher, in one of the above (a-e) or relevant subject


Have at least four years’ work experience in areas of microbiology/infectious disease, biological/biomedical science, public health, epidemiology or a relevant field.
