This role will provide you with the opportunity to:

The Advocacy and Voice Department is responsible for the public policy agenda. We work with expert colleagues drawn from practice and industry, developing and advocating policy on matters relating to financial reporting, audit and assurance, tax, ethics and governance and business law. The department numbers 20 professionals. The technical team within this department is responsible for a broad technical policy agenda of relevance to the Institute and its membership. This team manages and supports the activities of a range of technical committees and working groups, consisting of expert volunteers drawn from practice (both large and smaller firms) and industry, coordinating policy and developing guidance for members on matters relating to financial reporting, insolvency, audit and assurance and company and other business law matters, such as anti-money laundering legislation.
The position will interest those who enjoy the challenge of a rapidly changing environment and are interested in being part of a team which is at the centre of the development of the accountancy profession in Ireland.
The role includes supporting and managing the Insolvency Committee, and assisting the work of the Audit and Assurance Committee, as well as undertaking project work in the other areas of focus for the team – e.g. financial reporting.
The role is diverse and includes:
- Preparing, with committees/working groups, guidance and information documents for members;
- Preparing, with committees/working groups, submissions to consultations by international accounting, auditing and ethics standard setters, including the FRC, the IASB and the IAASB;
- Liaising with various Irish and UK Government Departments on company law and other legislation impacting on the work of accountants, auditors and insolvency practitioners;
- Interacting with various regulatory and other state agencies such as the CBI, IAASA, ODCE and CRO on regulatory and other matters relevant to the profession and business in general;
- Engaging with various other agencies/bodies regarding reporting by accountants on issues such as the protection of client monies and the provision of grants and licences;
- Coordinating on matters of common interest with other accounting bodies in Ireland, the UK and Europe;
- Providing technical assistance to members by giving presentations to network groups, at CPD courses and at conferences;
- Assisting other departments/functions of the Institute on technical matters.
The successful candidate will be an experienced qualified accountant and have:
- A good understanding of the legal framework and technical requirements faced by accountants, auditors and insolvency practitioners and a strong interest in technical matters;
- A working knowledge of Northern Ireland / UK legislation is not necessary but would be advantageous;
- A proven record as a team player;
- A high focus on quality and attention to detail;
- Strong organisational, written and oral communication, presentation and influencing skills;
- Strong project management skills and the necessary drive and determination to see projects through to a conclusion.
The role is full time and is based in our Dublin office but will involve some travel within Ireland, north and south, to the UK and occasionally to other European countries.
