Job Description

On behalf of our client, a global pharmaceutical company, we are currently recruiting for a Medical Director.

You will be responsible for providing strategic direction and leadership to the Medical Department. Leveraging your significant medical experience and supportive leadership skills to ensure your people are inspired to do their best and are focus on helping patients in Ireland. 

As the Medical Director you will act as an agile leader and ensure employees live our desired culture in the time of transformation. While reporting to the General Manager, you will lead a highly professional organisation with the highest scientific and ethical standards. You will ignite the Medical Team and others in the company by embracing agility with a mindset and culture that engages employees to bring our medicines to more patients faster.

You should display strong transformational leadership skills and be committed to continuing our cultural evolution and create medical value. As a member of the local Leadership Team, you will play a key and proactive role in contributing to the leadership and management of the affiliate.

Job Accountabilities:

  • Responsibility for the overall medical strategy and active contribution to the affiliate leadership
  • Oversight of all medical responsibilities and functions including: Medical Affairs, Clinical Operations, Regulatory, Pharmacovigilance, Medical Information and Quality
  • Together with a team, oversight of relevant company medical responsibilities in Malta
  • Proactively shape the environment, by developing strong, trust-based relationships and external partnerships with various stakeholders including Therapeutic Area Experts (TAEs), scientific bodies & patient groups
  • Represent company in issues of public health interest including media interviews and communications on medical issues
  • Develop and ensure implementation of a local clinical research strategy (both early and late stage) aimed at demonstrating the medical value of our products and services
  • Establish effective relationships with relevant Irish authorities
  • Ensure valuable data, insights and advice is provided to support the creation of dossiers for market access applications and marketing strategy
  • Continue building a high performing medical organisation that provides a stimulating and engaging work environment focused on talent development and customer and healthcare objectives
  • Develop networks and communities both internally and externally with global medical teams and other company affiliates, to share best practice and co-create solutions that will bring our medicines to more patients faster
  • Ensure local compliance and promote high ethical standards

Experience:

Experience of practicing clinical medicine and of working in the medical function of a biotechnology /pharmaceutical company

  • In-depth understanding of medical and strategic aspects of all drug development stages
  • Knowledge of ICH GCP and the local legislation on clinical trials
  • Experience in clinical and post-marketing drug safety and risk management
  • In depth understanding of the medical compliance framework (GCP/GVP), Health Care Compliance and Quality Management
  • Successful track record of people leadership and managing through others
  • Awareness of international and national codes of practice and of safety reporting legislation
  • Desirable, familiarity with the Irish medical environment and healthcare system

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Medical degree required, higher degree or specialist accreditation desirable
  • Fluency in English and multicultural awareness
  • Demonstrable business acumen and commercial awareness
  • Strong customer focus with a mindset of modelling the patient needs in the affiliate
  • Highly collaborative, accepted as a true partner with colleagues and external stakeholders
  • Strong and courageous decision maker
  • Creative leadership & emotional intelligence
  • Strong commitment to self-development and demonstration of a Growth Mindset
