Job Description


Our ideal candidate will be passionate about applying his or her expertise to increase the accuracy and coverage of the systems that we use to process information about members, jobs, companies and products.

This position is an 11-month contract role based in our office in Dublin, Ireland.


In this role, you will create, enrich, and validate our knowledge bases and taxonomies by creating new knowledge and evaluating how that knowledge helps in practice.

These include tasks like the following:

Knowledge Creation
Research and Integrate data about company products from different sources to improve ’s Product taxonomy data to meet current and future customer and business needs.
Develop, implement, and maintain guidelines and procedures for consistent, high-quality classification and content creation and organization.

Develop and apply in-depth expertise for how our customers perceive and think about our categorization of entities.
Identify systematic relationships between concepts such as companies, products, industries, etc.
Research new entity categories and best practices for organizing them
Leverage external resources like Wikipedia and standards to enrich and organize our data

Evaluation & Annotation

Create instructions for outsourced evaluations, for example using the Figure Eight (formerly known as Crowdflower) platform
Evaluate the quality of existing data resources, as well as the output of machine learning classifiers and internal tools
Annotate English data accurately and consistently, and in accordance with predefined annotation guidelines

Perform basic research as needed in order to annotate accurately
Provide insights regarding observed patterns in the annotated data
Minimum Qualification

Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English
Strong problem solving and abstract thinking skills
Analytical skills with high attention to detail
Willingness to learn technical concepts and new tools and a keen interest in technology
Comfortable working with unclear classification rules or on unfamiliar topics
1+ years of experience with taxonomy work, search, controlled vocabularies, and/or linguistic annotation, and/or data analysis for social networks

Bachelor’s degree
Preferred Qualification
Ability to understand and apply complex task-specific instructions with minimal supervision
Experience creating or maintaining product taxonomies

Understand the tradeoffs involved in making classification decisions
Practical experience with user-generated content
Knowledge of semantics, dictionary building, controlled vocabularies, taxonomies, and/or ontologies

Knowledge of tools for natural language processing and/or Figure Eight or other crowdsourcing platforms
Bachelor, Master or PhD in Linguistics, Computational Linguistics, Library and Information Science, Philosophy, Experimental Psychology, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
