Moulding Project Engineer
SCOPE:
Reporting to the Senior Manufacturing Engineer, the Moulding Project Engineer is primarily responsible for providing polymer processing and engineering expertise and effectively implementing projects to support the continuity and growth of the site Moulding requirements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Initiate, co-ordinate and complete assigned projects within the engineering department, using structured approach and detailed planning to deliver projects that meet or exceed stakeholder expectations and that are delivered Right First Time, safely, on schedule and within budget.
- Complete Process / Product Validations with external contract moulding companies or internally as they arise, in conjunction with Quality/Validation group to meet required specification and standards.
- Project Management - provide timely and accurate reporting on project activities.
- Actively interfacing with cross-functional team members, always practicing good teamwork in support of day to day operating requirements.
- Provide technical support for moulding process issue or changes on existing moulding processes.
- Develop and sustain optimum molding processes for the manufacturing of regulated moulded components.
- Support the Molding Department’s tooling process validation efforts.
- Complete process optimization using latest molding techniques / principles (eg. Scientific Molding).
- Troubleshoot moulding / manufacturing processes to mitigate production defects.
- Identify and develop risk based approach to tooling change management in conjunction with validation and QA groups.
- Conduct process feasibility trials / process DOE’s to determine appropriate/robust process windows.
- Prepare & execute OQ / PQ builds for process / material changes as needed.
- Work in conjunction with the Quality & Validation group to determine appropriate validation sampling and acceptance criteria.
- Thorough investigation of Quality and EHS issues using Root Cause Analysis methodology, and implementation of robust corrective and preventative actions to prevent recurrence for molding related issues.
Essential
· Injection moulding and mould tools experience
· Project Management skills
Desirable Skills/Knowledge
· Automated / Semi Automated assembly equipment.
· High precision Punch & Die Sets.
· Heat sealing, ultrasonic welding, leak testing, vision systems.
· OEE Line performance methodology.
· Minitab/ Lean 6 Sigma techniques
· Root Cause Analysis methodology
· Microsoft Excel to an advanced level
· AutoCAD.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Degree in Mechanical or Polymer Science or similar disciplines.
Experience: minimum of 3 year relevant experience, preferably within Medical Device industry or other regulated environments.
Proven track record in Injection Moulding Engineering
Skills/ attributes:
· Experience in a validated Medical Device environment.
· Knowledge of equipment installation and validation – I/O, Safety Matrix, SAT, IQ, OQ, PQ, etc.).
· Ability to manage multiple assignments or projects with sound analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
· Excellent engineering ability
· Strong organizational ability
· Self motivation and drive
· Demonstrate a high level of responsiveness to internal customers (eg. production)
· Communication- strong written, oral and presentational skills.
